Signs It's Time For Deck Restoration In Knoxville, TN

If you’re a homeowner with an outdoor deck, it’s essential to inspect it regularly for signs of damage.

Deck restoration services can help keep your family safe if any problems are discovered. Common signs indicating a need for deck repair or replacement include warping, rotting wood, and loose railings.

It’s also important to check the condition of the screws and bolts used in construction, as these can become loose over time due to weathering or general wear and tear.

Rotting or Decay

Do you notice soft or spongy areas on your deck boards or support structures? These can be indications of rotting or decay caused by moisture infiltration. If left unaddressed, this can compromise the structural integrity of your deck and pose safety risks.

Splintering or Cracked Boards

Are there any splintered, cracked, or warped boards on your deck’s surface? Over time, exposure to the elements and constant foot traffic can cause boards to deteriorate. Not only can splintered boards be unsightly and uncomfortable to walk on, but they can also lead to injuries if left unresolved.

Loose or Missing Fasteners

Inspect your deck for loose or missing screws, nails, or other fasteners. Loose fasteners can cause boards to shift or become unstable, making your deck unsafe for use. Additionally, missing fasteners compromise the overall stability of your deck, and it’s crucial to address this issue promptly.

Faded or Discolored Decking

Has your deck lost its vibrant color and now appears faded or discolored? Continuous exposure to sunlight, rain, and other environmental factors can cause the deck’s surface to fade and lose its original appeal. Faded decking not only detracts from the overall aesthetics but can also indicate a lack of protective sealant.

Mold or Mildew Growth

Do you notice any signs of mold or mildew on your deck’s surface? Dark spots, green patches, or a musty smell are indications of fungal growth resulting from excess moisture retention. Mold and mildew mar the appearance of your deck and can pose health risks to you and your family.

Shaky or Unstable Structure

When you step onto your deck, does it feel wobbly or unstable? A shaky deck may indicate underlying structural issues such as weakened support posts, loose connections, or inadequate bracing. Ignoring these warning signs can lead to accidents and further damage to your deck.

The Dangers Of Deck Damage

The dangers of deck damage should not be taken lightly. Even minor signs of wear and tear can cause serious safety risks for your family, leading to costly repairs or even replacement.

Inspecting your outdoor deck regularly for signs of warping, rotting wood, loose railings, and other issues that could compromise the structural integrity of your deck.

Safety Hazards

Damaged decks can pose significant safety risks to you, your family, and your guests. Loose or rotten boards, unstable railings, or weakened support structures can lead to slips, falls, or even collapses. The last thing you want is for an enjoyable outdoor gathering to turn into an accident due to neglected deck damage.

Structural Instability

Over time, untreated deck damage can compromise the structural integrity of your entire deck. For example, rotting wood, corroded fasteners, or weakened beams can lead to a structurally unstable deck. This instability makes the deck unsafe for use and increases the risk of complete structural failure.

Increased Risk of Accidents

A damaged deck can increase the likelihood of accidents and injuries. Splintered or cracked boards can cause painful splinters or trip hazards. Loose nails, screws, or other fasteners can catch on clothing or bare feet, resulting in cuts or puncture wounds.

Property Damage

Deck damage doesn’t only affect the deck itself but can also lead to property damage. For instance, if a weakened support beam gives way, it can cause the entire deck to collapse, potentially damaging other structures or causing harm to your property.

Pest Infestations

Damaged and decaying wood is an open invitation for pests such as termites, ants, or carpenter bees. These pests can further damage your deck, compromising its structural integrity. Moreover, if they find their way into your home, they can cause extensive damage to other wooden structures and furniture.

Decreased Home Value

Neglected deck damage can hurt the value of your home. A poorly maintained deck not only detracts from the overall aesthetics but also raises concerns about the condition of the property as a whole. If you plan to sell your home, a damaged deck may lower its value and make potential buyers hesitant to make an offer.

At Riverview Decks, we have the expertise to evaluate and address these issues promptly, ensuring your outdoor living space’s safety, functionality, and visual appeal.

Our Deck Restoration Process

When you entrust Riverview Decks with your deck restoration project, you can expect a comprehensive and professional approach that will revitalize your outdoor living space. Here’s an overview of the six steps involved in our deck restoration process.

Initial Consultation

We’ll schedule an initial consultation to assess the condition of your deck and understand your restoration goals. During this visit, we’ll carefully examine the deck boards, wood deck structure, and surface. We’ll discuss your preferences regarding the final look and any specific concerns you may have about the weathered deck.

Thorough Cleaning

Before any restoration work can begin, we’ll thoroughly clean the entire deck to remove dirt, grime, mold, and any old deck stain or finish. We utilize professional-grade deck cleaners and, in some cases, a pressure washer set to an appropriate level to ensure the removal of built-up dirt and stains without causing damage to the wood fibers.

Repair & Restoration

Next, we’ll address any wood rot, damaged deck boards, or weakened deck railings. Our experienced craftsmen will carefully replace any necessary deck boards, reinforcing the deck’s structural integrity. This step is essential for ensuring your deck’s long-term durability and safety.

Sanding & Smoothing

To prepare the deck surface for applying the new deck stain, we’ll sand the wood to remove any rough areas, splinters, or raised wood fibers. This step enhances the deck’s appearance and ensures a smooth and comfortable surface for you and your family to enjoy.

Protective Finishing

With the deck properly prepped, we’ll apply a high-quality wood stain or deck stain that suits your aesthetic preferences. This protective finishing layer not only enhances the natural beauty of the wood but also shields it from the damaging effects of direct sunlight, moisture, and foot traffic. We’ll apply the stain evenly, ensuring complete coverage and consistency.

Cleanup & Care

We significantly protect your property throughout the restoration process. We’ll use plastic sheeting or other protective measures to cover nearby plants, furniture, or other elements surrounding the deck. Once the restoration is complete, we’ll remove any debris, ensuring a clean and tidy outdoor space.

Why Our Past Customers Love Us

S. Hope M.- Watts

5/5

Nate was a very pleasant and professional person to work with, he explained what he would do and answered all my questions. This was the first time I had ever had a composite deck put on, and the man that did my deck did a great job, I’m now able to set out and enjoy the outdoors. It took about two weeks to finish, and that was due to the rain.

I would recommend this company to anyone, they do great work and finish in a timely manner. I have had so many compliments from my neighbors, which I told them that if they wanted a new deck then Nate is the the one to do the job.

Not only did Nate come by through out the process of my deck being put on he also came by a month after to see how my deck was and if I had any other questions and if I was happy with the new deck, and of course I am.

If I decide to build onto my deck, then I would have to go with Riverview Decks, do my suggestion is that if anyone is looking to having a new deck then call Nate.
