Redecking Services by Riverview Decks
Bring your outdoor space back to life with a redecking service that's built to last.

The Deck Isn't the Problem. The Boards Are.
There’s a certain point where a deck stops being an asset and starts being a headache. The boards are soft in spots, the finish has peeled off, and you’ve mentally roped off two planks near the railing because you don’t quite trust them anymore.
Redecking is one of those things that feels overwhelming until you actually talk to someone who’s done it hundreds of times. At Riverview Decks, that’s exactly who you’ll be dealing with. We’ve got 36 craftsmen and women who’ve worked through every scenario you can imagine, from simple board replacements to full surface overhauls on multi-level structures. Over 250 completed projects and counting, with more than 100 wrapped up every single year.
What that means for you is simple: we don’t show up guessing. We show up with a plan, the right tools, and genuine respect for the home you’ve built.

- 250+ completed projects
- 36 skilled craftsmen and women
- 100+ projects completed per year

What Homeowners Say About Working With Us
Tracy Whaley

I am super pleased with my deck. The job was completed very quickly but correctly and they communicated with me throughout the whole process letting me know what would be done when.
The deck is high quality and the small issues that I did have were addressed right away. Would definitely recommend these guys to anyone.

Mandy Smith
Riverview did an amazing job getting everything completed for my new deck. The communication was great and it was easy throughout the entire process.
They did a thorough walk through to make sure things went to their standard and it was a great experience.
Is It Time to Redeck? Here Are the Signs
- Boards that feel soft, spongy, or give underfoot
- Visible cracking, splitting, or warping along the surface
- Widespread graying or peeling finish that's beyond a simple stain
- Boards pulling away from the frame or lifting at the edges
- Recurring splinters that make barefoot walking impossible
- Discoloration or dark spots that suggest moisture damage underneath
- Fasteners (nails or screws) backing out or rusting through
- A surface that looks genuinely tired compared to the rest of your home
Redecking vs. Full Rebuild: Which One Do You Actually Need?
This is probably the first question that comes up, and it’s a fair one. The honest answer is that it depends on your substructure. If the beams, joists, ledger board, footings, and frame underneath are still in good shape, redecking is the smarter move. You get a completely renewed surface at a fraction of the cost and time of starting over.
A full rebuild makes sense when the structural elements are compromised, whether that’s rot in the frame, failing footings, or damage that goes deeper than the boards themselves.
| Feature | Redecking | Full Rebuild |
|---|---|---|
| Surface boards replaced | Yes | Yes |
| Substructure work included | Only if needed | Full replacement |
| Typical project timeline | Shorter | Longer |
| Cost relative to new build | Lower | Higher |
| Best for | Solid frame, worn surface | Structural damage or full redesign |
| Disruption to your yard | Minimal | More significant |
A Guide to Redecking Materials
The boards you choose affect how your deck looks, how it feels underfoot, how much maintenance it’ll need, and how long it’ll hold up. Here’s a straightforward comparison of the main options.
| Material | Lifespan | Maintenance | Look and Feel | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pressure-Treated Pine | 15-25 years | Moderate (staining, sealing) | Natural wood grain | Most affordable entry point |
| Cedar | 15-20 years | Moderate | Warm, rich tone | Naturally rot-resistant |
| Composite (e.g. Trex) | 25-30+ years | Low | Consistent, polished | Higher upfront, lower long-term cost |
| PVC Decking | 25-30+ years | Very low | Uniform finish | Resistant to moisture and insects |
| Hardwood (Ipe, Tigerwood) | 25-40 years | Low to moderate | Striking, dense grain | Premium option, extremely durable |

Questions Homeowners Ask Us About Redecking
For most standard decks, the work takes anywhere from a couple of days to about a week, depending on size and material. We give you a realistic timeline upfront and stick to it. The bigger variable is often lead time on materials, which is why we handle ordering early. By the time our crew shows up, we’re ready to move without delays.
In most cases, if you’re replacing boards on an existing structure without changing the footprint or height, permits aren’t required. That said, local rules vary, and if any structural work is involved, the answer might change. We’re familiar with the requirements in the areas we serve and will let you know what applies to your specific project before anything starts.
Partial redecking is absolutely possible when only certain areas have deteriorated. We assess each board individually and replace what needs replacing. That said, if the majority of the surface is showing wear, doing it all at once typically makes more sense visually and practically. We’ll give you our honest read when we see it.
This is exactly what our assessment is for. Before we quote anything, we check the joists, beams, ledger board, and footings for any signs of rot, movement, or damage. If we find something that needs attention, we’ll tell you clearly and explain what it means for the project. You won’t be caught off guard mid-job.
