Deck Repair in New Market, TN
Riverview Decks handles deck repair across New Market and Jefferson County.

Most people who call us about a deck repair in New Market already know something is wrong. A board that feels soft underfoot. A railing that shifts when you lean on it. Stairs that have developed a creak that was not there last summer.
What they are usually less sure about is what that means for the rest of the structure. Surface problems are easy to spot, but what sits underneath them is not.
That is where we start.

The Problem You See Is Rarely the Only One
Before a quote is written, we walk the structure top to bottom.
Surface boards are the easy part. We are looking at what is underneath: the condition of the joists, whether the ledger connection has held its flashing, how the posts are holding up at grade, and whether the footings have moved.
Jefferson County’s clay-heavy soil is not always kind to shallow footings, and a deck that looks fine on the surface can have meaningful structural movement happening below it.
We document what we find. You see it in writing before any work begins.

What We Fix
- Boards and surface decking. Soft, cracked, splintered, or lifted boards replaced individually or across a full surface re-deck when the framing underneath is solid. If you want to upgrade to composite at the same time, we install TimberTech AZEK and Deckorators Venture over intact framing, both carrying 25 to 30-year warranties on fade and stain.
- Ledger and flashing. The ledger is where decks most commonly fail quietly. Water behind improperly installed flashing finds its way into the rim joist of the house over time. We pull the ledger, assess what is behind it, repair any house framing damage, and reinstall with a proper waterproof membrane and engineered structural hardware.
- Posts and post bases. Posts that show rot at grade or soft wood at the base are replaced. New hardware keeps the post clear of standing water. We verify load transfer through the full connection before moving on.
- Joists. Softened joists get sistered with new pressure-treated framing where the damage is contained. Where deterioration is broader, we remove and replace the affected section. Joist tape on every horizontal member we install.
- Railings. A railing that moves under load does not meet Tennessee's code requirement for guardrails on decks more than 30 inches above grade. We re-anchor posts through the framing, replace damaged balusters, and bring the system up to standard. Westbury aluminum railing on most rebuilds.
- Stairs and stringers. Stringers sitting at or near grade are the first framing members to go on most older Jefferson County decks. We replace them, reset the treads, and install a concrete landing at the base if one is not already there.
- Footings. Where footings have shifted enough to affect the deck's level or plumb, we excavate and repour, or install helical piers where soil conditions call for it.

The 5 stars is reflective of the owner of the business. Nate is a credit to his profession and works to ensure his clients are happy.
We had a horrible deck which was rotting and becoming unusable. He developed a design that we loved and was on point with all of his suggestions.
He was always promptly responsive, which we learned is difficult to find nowadays. It wasn’t always smooth sailing (I guess few jobs ever are), but the end result is excellent and exactly what we wanted.

Frequently Asked Questions
If the framing is sound and problems are limited to specific components, repair is usually the right call. If the ledger has been moving water into the house, posts are soft at multiple locations, and the framing is broadly compromised, the cost of repair starts to close in on what a full replacement would run. We give you both numbers when the assessment warrants it.
Cosmetic work, like replacing individual boards, typically does not. Structural repairs involving the ledger, framing, posts, or footings may require one. Jefferson County follows the 2012 IRC. We determine what applies to your project and handle any required submissions through Jefferson County Building and Codes.
Focused single-component work usually wraps in a day or two. Broader structural scope, ledger, posts, framing, and railing together, runs three to five days. You get a specific timeline in the written quote.
Yes, when the product is still available and a color match is achievable. When it is not, a full re-deck over intact framing is often the cleaner outcome. We check availability before recommending either direction.
