Part One: The deck Inspection
When we first visited Eldon and Leeann’s home, it was easy to see why they were ready for a change. Their existing deck had served them for years, but time hadn’t been kind, and they had bigger plans for what came next.
Eldon and Leeann had already arranged for a separate contractor to build a brand-new glass sunroom over part of their existing deck. They wanted a beautiful composite deck that wrapped around the sunroom, turning their backyard into a seamless outdoor living space.
But before we could start building, we needed to understand exactly what we were dealing with.
A closer look at the issues we found with the old deck...
Weathered wood
The deck was discolored and splintered after years of East Tennessee sun and rain.
Obstructive railings
The original white wooden balusters were thick, dated, and blocked the view.
Dark screen porch
The old screened-in porch was framed with thick wood and solid railings. It felt closed off and gloomy.
Worn-out stairs
The old staircase dropped directly onto bare ground with no solid landing pad.
Part Two: The Design, Planning, Permitting
Before construction began, we handled every detail behind the scenes: professional blueprints, structural engineering, and full Blount County permitting. We designed the deck to wrap perfectly around the new sunroom and engineered the footings to support it safely for decades.
Part Three: Ready For Construction
We rebuilt Eldon and Leeann’s deck from the ground up in just 7 days.
October 3
Old deck demolished and the materials arrived on site. It’s a clean slate, ready for rebuild.
October 4–6
Concrete footings poured, posts set, and the full structural frame completed.
October 7
443 sq. ft. of composite decking installed and the Westbury Bronze railings go up.
October 9
The stairs, gate, and concrete landing pad are done. Eldon and Leeann signed off.
