RATED #1 DECK BUILDING COMPANY IN KNOXVILLE AREA BY OVER 1,000 PEOPLE
Composite Deck Rebuild With Concrete Hot Tub Patio
See how we removed a failing wood deck and built a low-maintenance outdoor space with a dedicated hot tub area Knoxville, TN.
- Deckorators composite decking built to last
- Concrete pad to support a full hot tub
- Elegant Westbury aluminum railings

Part One: The deck Inspection
Marlene’s wood deck had stopped being somewhere she loved spending time for years. Instead, it became work.
Every spring it was the same routine: lay down a fresh coat of white paint and hope it held through another summer. It never did.
When we walked the property, the picture was clear. The wood deck had to come out completely. In its place, Marlene wanted a composite surface she would never have to worry about. She also wanted a concrete patio large enough to anchor a hot tub right off the base of the stairs.
That was the assignment. Here is how it came together.
A closer look at the issues we found with the old deck...

Rotting wood
Years of rain and sun had pushed the boards past their limit. No amount of repairs could reverse the damage.

No hardscaping
There was no flat ground-level surface to place furniture, host guests, or support the hot tub.

Peeling paint
Every spring, the white paint cracked, bubbled, and peeled, and the maintenance cycle started again.

Muddy transition
The stairs dropped straight onto a tiny pad on a sloped grassy yard. Every rain made it a muddy mess.
Part Two: The Design, Planning, Permitting
Before tearing off the old deck, we submitted permits to Knox County and created four engineered blueprints. The plans replaced rotting wood with a maintenance-free composite deck and added a 16×16 concrete patio to solve the muddy yard and give the tub a proper home.
Part Three: Ready For Construction
From the first day of demolition to the day Marlene walked their finished deck and patio, the on-site build took 21 days.
August 21–23
August 26–29
Framing and composite decking were installed, and the site was excavated for concrete.
September 2-4
16×16 concrete patio poured and broom-finished.
September 10-11
Active sprinkler lines were relocated. Stairs and remaining detail work were finished.

Composite Deck with Concrete Patio
This project included:
- Designs, plans, and permitting
- Demolition and clean-up
- Deckorators Venture Saltwater composite decking
- Westbury C-10 white aluminum railing system
- 4x4 composite landing at the base of the stairs
- 16x16 broom-finished concrete pad
- Hot tub load support engineering
- Pressure-treated lumber framing
- Wider composite stair system

Deckorators Venture Saltwater Composite Deck
Deckorators Venture composite decking handles sun, rain, humidity, and foot traffic without cracking, fading, or asking for a weekend of maintenance every spring. Marlene traded painting season for actual outdoor time.

Westbury C-10 Textured White Aluminum Railing
Westbury C-10 is powder-coated, rust-proof, and built to stay sharp without any upkeep. It gives the whole build a clean, finished look that holds up just as well ten years from now as it does on day one.

Broom-Finish Concrete Patio
This 16×16 patio was poured specifically to handle the weight of a hot tub sitting on it long-term. At 3 inches thick with 10-inch footers under the stair load points, it replaced a sloped muddy yard with a level, permanent surface that connects cleanly to the base of the stairs.
